The Tudors

Just caught the first episode of The Tudors on TV (BBC2), it was ‘ok’ and ‘ok’ is never really actually a good review is it? Jonathon Rhys Meyers is darn fine and I certainly wouldn’t say no to him if I was a lady in waiting and some of the other actors weren’t too bad to look at either, so as some ‘visually pleasing’ Friday night entertainment it wasn’t too bad and I always like anything about Thomas More as I am directly related by marriage to his immediate family (i.e. Mr. Lacer’s family tree is way more interesting than my own). Other than that I sat through it for some reason thinking, if I miss this next week I wouldn’t be too gutted. I’m not sure why but it just didn’t grab me, which surprised me as I really liked Elizabeth which was written by The Tudors creator as well.

What really bugged be though was Sam Neill, now I haven’t got anything against Sam Neill, I think he’s a fine actor and I normally love his stuff but he just seemed miscast in this as Cardinal Wolsey, he just looked so out of place amongst all the other actors. I guess maybe I’ve just watched too much Jurassic Park or something (and I’m not even a big fan of the Jurassic Park movies), but he was just surrounded by all these actors doing their best Spanish, French, posh English accents and Sam Neill was just being Sam Neill.

haha – I think this is a rather late comment, but I def. agree about your Sam Neill comment. Though, you pretty much have to keep watching; he sort of slides into the character pretty well. I’m not used to him as a ‘bad guy’. It was off at first.
