Just watched my new favourite movie, M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water. It was fantastic, I don’t care what the other reviews have said (I’m always so behind on film watching as I have to wait for it to come out on DVD and then I have to wait for the online DVD rental company I use to deem to send it to me). I think that Lady in the Water is probably not a movie for everyone but there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a fantasy movie set in a real life setting and that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s certainly not as mainstream as the also excellent Sixth Sense (heck I like all M. Night Shyamalan movies) but it is such a charming idea executed intelligently, a bedtime story for grown ups. I certainly think writers would appreciate this movie as it plays with several cliches and watching this movie I was struck with the rare thought for me, that this movie would have made a great book (normally it’s the other way round for me, I think certain books would make great film / TV). Anyway I’m not going to say what happens as I wouldn’t do it justice but I am going to say (unless you’re the sort of person who only likes really mainstream movies) ignore the bad reviews, this movie is great.
