I’m at a bit of a loss what to do with myself actually, right now for the past near month I’d have been slogging it out trying to get to my word count but other than that I have been enjoying being able to catch up with my sleep, catch up with my book selling mailings and actually having a choice about what I can do with my free time, even if I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. Actually I have a couple of ideas to work on, I need to resurrect my Egypt project but that still needs a lot of research (and I now know from writing a research free story for NaNo that I do need to do research for my stories, they give them a grounding and without that my writing suffers) and I’ve got another idea for a children’s picture book with a twist which I’ve had for a while but I need to do some research for that to, ‘research for a children’s picture book?’ I hear you say, well I’m not going to say what exactly my idea is as I think the ‘twist’ is quite good but it involves going back to a classic fairy tale and I need to make sure I’ve got the history of that fairy tale right first, but I have gone the first step for the research for that and ordered some books from the local library. I’ve found a fantastic website about fairytales SurLaLune and they have some great reading lists, which state that you should be able to get the books from your library, mmm if it’s your local university library you would, not for the first time I wish I was still a student, not to get any more science qualifications mind you (I’ve got more than enough, considering I don’t plan to go back to that) but just so I can have access to a good library again.
Other than that I have a cold (ain’t winter great) and I’m working tonight boo hoo hoo, a new student and I’m not looking forward to it as I don’t have a clue what we’re going to do, as the syllabuses for GCSE science has all changed and when I asked her on the phone she said she was doing ‘double science’, now that used to be very straightforward but now it’s all changed that could mean anything!
Oh and Boy Lacer who normally naps in the afternoon, giving me a wonderful two hours of ‘free time’, as Girl Lacer is in nursery is beginning to fight against his nap but he is nearly 2 1/4 and I knew it would happen before this academic year was out and although it would be good not to be so restricted by his naps (could really do with being able to do my food shopping in the afternoons so I’m only having to take one kid with me), these two hours are really the only writing time I have. I know there’s the evening but it’s 8pm by the time the kids are guaranteed to be all storied out and asleep, 9pm by the time I’ve eaten and then all there is that is desirable to do is to slump in front of the TV, I haven’t got the energy to be creative, so if I loose these two hours I don’t know where my writing is going to go. It won’t be until next academic year when we try Boy Lacer at playgroup again will I get any free time again and that will only be two mornings a week. Mr.Lacer has said before that I’m trying to be a writer at the ‘wrong time’ due to my lack of free time but we’ve both agreed it’s pointless me looking for ‘proper work’ until Boy Lacer is in reception at school so at least I’ll have five half days a week between September ’09 – July ’10 to write in, that’s something to look forward to!
