Primeval

Well that was interesting, the first episode of series 2 of Primeval aired tonight, I was always looking forward to this episode, not as you may think because I’m a massive Primeval fan (I’m not, I watched a bit of the last series but only if I was in the room – Mr. Lacer likes it) but because I knew they filmed this episode in my local shopping centre, so to those who’ve seen this episode, it’s a nice shopping centre isn’t it lol! (Photo above was taken in the bridge connecting to the car park).

But back to Primeval itself, it was ok but watching it I’m always aware that this is ITV’s attempt at appealing to the Doctor Who demographic and as a proud fully signed up member of the Doctor Who demographic, Primeval is not up to scratch. The structure of the programme means that it is always, as what a Doctor Who fan would refer to as an episode where the Doctor is up against an evil baddy alien, a ‘monster of the week’ episode or in the case of Primeval a ‘dinosaur of the week’ episode, whereas Doctor Who can have episodes where the Doctor isn’t up against some standard alien baddy, for example the excellent Blink, well if an episode of Primeval doesn’t have those time hole thingy-me-bobs and lots of chasing around after dinosaurs, well it’s not an episode of Primeval is it? So in summary I think Primeval suffers a bit from being a bit samey and I’m not too keen on the CGI either, ok it is good but it doesn’t look like they’ve completely blown the budget on it though. So after the brief excitement of Raptors running around my local shopping centre (I’d so love to show Girl Lacer this episode but Mr. Lacer says its too scary and literally too close to home), Primeval will be back to the status of ‘well I’ll watch it if I’m in the room and how long till the next series of Doctor Who?’ (Mrs. Lacer looks impatiently at her watch).
