Not quite as big day as planned

Girl Lacer had her first ever school (read nursery) trip today, a whole day out at the farm and there was I thinking that the first time Girl Lacer would ever be away from us for the whole day would be when she starts reception in September. I dropped Girl Lacer off at nursery this morning (and ooh the morning school run was a bit of a rude awakening for us softened by an afternoon school run only) and then me and Boy Lacer went off to the local play cafe (suddenly just paying to entertain one child seems so much cheaper), followed by McDonalds because we could and then the supermarket. I was trying to dawdle with no incentive to rush back for the normal afternoon nursery run yet we still got back home pretty much in time to have taken Girl Lacer to nursery if she’d been there. Me and Boy Lacer spent a quiet afternoon, with Boy Lacer doing his usual habit of sticking to me like glue making the most of the undivided attention. Then three quarters of an hour before I was due to go and pick up Girl Lacer, my friend S and her son, who’d both been on the trip today were outside my front door. The trip had never happened, the bus never showed up! But the nursery staff were fantastic and gave the kids a great fun day with games on the playing field and a picnic afterwards and they’ve re-booked the trip for next month, so another day with just me and Boy Lacer, I’m learning quite quickly that actually, even though on paper (and from memory) the school day seems quite long, when you’re a mum between school runs, time actually flies.
