Bourne Ultimatum

After watching recently the lukewarm Die Hard 4.0 recently, I was a lot more impressed by this action movie. Bourne Ultimatum was a lot more ‘real’ and gritty, I loved how one of the close to the opening sequences was set in Waterloo but that’s just be personally, as I love seeing films set in bits of London I know well.

Anyway brief summary, Bourne is trying to go back to his roots, to find out who he really is and it’s like watching a constantly moving car crash (and in one scene a real one), moving with rapidity from one action scene to another with no chance for a breather, as he closes in on his identity. A movie I’d recommend (if you like action movies).

I like this top

Comes to something when I covet one of Boy Lacer’s tops. It’s from Polarn O. Pyret, a Swedish (or is it Finnish?) children’s clothes store, now in the UK. Boy Lacer loves this top, he points to it when wearing it and goes “Nee-nah, nee-nah”, there must be a fire engine or something on it somewhere.

Other than that, I’ve just brought a bike and a helmet for Girl Lacer from the school bike sale, £5! Bargain! Needless to say we will check it’s safe and it does need some stabilisers but every kid needs a bike and we just didn’t have the money for that (and we’re upgrading her scooter for her birthday (which I predict she’ll still get far more use out of), so that ruled out the bike as a birthday present idea).

Meme of Various Stuff

I found this meme at Struggling Writer and I thought I’d have a go. I would be interested to see what answers anyone else out there would give to this; anyway here goes.

1. What were you doing 10 years ago?
This time 10 years ago I was just just over a month away from getting married. I was two months in to my first proper science job (although I was only a lab technician), having escaped from an awful job as a secondary school science teacher.

2. 5 things on your to-do list for today

  • Post an already late birthday card (which as the day comes to an end I haven’t done)
  • Tidy up bedroom.
  • Clean kitchen (not yet done and increasingly unlikely).
  • Give Boy Lacer a bath *shudder*.
  • Put the kids to bed.

3. What would you do if you were a billionaire?
Struggling Writer changed this to a millionaire, which I will to because I agree it’s more interesting.

If I had a million pounds, I’d give up all pretense about trying to bring money into the house (with my book selling and private tuition) and write full time as soon as the kids were both in school. I’d also buy a house around  the corner from me, a lovely Victorian villa, ‘only’ £750,000, so I wouldn’t have much money left after stamp duty etc but the rest of it would be used to support us whilst I was trying to write.

4. What are three of your bad habits?

  • Too much surfing on the internet
  • Sweet tooth.
  • Too many carbonated drinks.

5. What are some snacks you enjoy?

  • Chocolate
  • Any other sweets (unless they have nuts, liquor or dark chocolate, although I’m flexible about the dark chocolate)
  • Any homemade cake / biscuit
  • Crisps

6. What were the last five books you read?

  • Religion and the Decline of Magic
  • Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
  • I’m Watching You
  • Mums@Home
  • The School Run

7. What are five jobs you have had?

  • Drugstore assistant
  • Bookshop assistant (all time favourite job)
  • 24/7 type shop assistant
  • Secondary school science teacher
  • Forensic Scientist

8. What are five places where you have lived?

  • London
  • York
  • Pontypridd, South Wales
  • No-soul, Norfolk
  • Milton Keynes

Bottom drawer

I have a bottom drawer I never use,

It’s always filled with junk,

So today I decided to clear it,

A trove of past memories I did find,

A myriad of bright silk scarves from times more soluble,

Two bikinis still with sand,

Distinctly unwearable,

A postcard of the Twin Towers brought a few days before,

and the change I probably got from the note given at the postcard store,

An amber ring showing Venetian depths I didn’t use to like,

A baby’s shoe, it’s partner long since lost,

but kept company by a solo sock,

Finally some stencils from a ’90s craze,

but I’ll find a different use for one of these days,

As for the drawer?

I suspect I’ll put all of it back.

Ugh I don’t know what came over me, I don’t normally write poetry (you’ll probably be relieved). Clearing out drawers obviously has a strange effect on me!
