Happy Blog Birthday!

2008 July 13

Wow! I’ve been blogging for exactly a year today, when I started this blog I wasn’t totally sure how long I’d be able to keep it up for but I’ve so enjoyed doing this (and it’s a great stress relief), so I’m still here and will be here for quite some time yet hopefully. I was going to bake a birthday cake to celebrate (any excuse), something Mr. Lacer thought was hilarious and completely sad at the same time, beating the time when he once ate a cupcake at work which had been especially baked and iced to celebrate the birthday of a policy, but as usual I’m rushed off my feet, even though one of those feet is a little dodgy having sprained it yesterday getting lost in the park and I also have a stinking cold.

Looking back it’s been a busy year, lots of reading, cooking, some stabs at gardening and crafts, some good TV and films and consequentlywith all that not enough writing as I would like. I’ve been totally amazed at the number of visitors I’ve had to this blog; at the time of writing I’ve had 84,839 hits, in a year! And for that I’d like to thank everyone who as visited here (and hopefully enjoyed this blog) and a specially big thanks to my regular visitors, I’ve enjoyed reading your comments.

My top three posts have all been cooking related;

  1. Nigella’s Sticky Cocktail Sausages – currently at 3,491 views.
  2. Jamie’s Onion Soup (plus his courgette carbonara) - currently at 3,082 views.
  3. Tana Ramsay’s Chicken Skewers with Sweet and Sour Sauce / Nigella Lawson’s Donut French Toast - currently at 2,479 views.

I think like a lot of bloggers I’ve found looking at my google hits information interesting, today for example my top searches have been for Iggle Piggle, Canary Wharf and Sportacus, I’ve written about Iggle Piggle and Sportacus a bit so I can understand that but Canary Wharf? I mentioned Canary Wharf once (whoop twice now) when I mentioned I spent my dreams there and there must be sooooo many other websites before mine on the google rankings. Sometimes that can verge on the annoying (not Canary Wharf), I wrote a not particularly good review of The Devil Wears Prada, I wasn’t particularly flattering and I also fell asleep before the end, so perhaps I shouldn’t have written it but for months and months ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and ‘Devil Wears Prada was my top google search, I actually tried several times on google to see where exactly my page came up in the google page listings, each time I got to ten pages and it wasn’t there, you know, obviously far better and more professional reviews coming up top, like I don’t know, The Rolling Stone magazine for example, so I’ve just come to the conclusion that there’s a lot of Devil Wears Prada fans that like clicking through lots and lots of google!

So, onto the next year and I have a feeling that just like the old Chinese curse it’s going to be ‘interesting’; Girl Lacer starts school, I continue to battle trying to squeeze us all into this tiny space (with the increasing relationship issues that’s causing), finances (along with everyone elses) getting more and more tight and possibly most importantly Boy Lacer’s continued medical issues, with the all important appointment coming up on the 21st.

So here’s to more blogging, more cooking, more reading, more watching, more gardening, more crafting and hopefully more writing (still in 17th century research phase at the moment with that).

Happy Birthday!

PS Sorry for any typos, the spell checker – one of the less pleasant experiences of blogging with WordPress.
