1B + 2F Saturday (Farmer’s Market and Flickr photos)
After last week’s abortive attempt when ballet wasn’t actually open, ballet started again this week. Girl Lacer has moved up a class and she has more girls from her school class there which is great (and gives me someone to talk to whilst waiting!).
After ballet, me and Girl Lacer went home for her to get changed and then we were off into town, there was a Farmers Market in today (hopefully it’ll become a permanent fixture). I knew it was coming so I didn’t order any vegetables this week and took a list to the market instead. I was a bit concerned about whether I was going to actually end up paying more but I only did so on the aubergines, which is possibly worth paying for knowing that they were reasonably local instead of shipped in from abroad and after my failed attempt at growing aubergines I appreciate how difficult it is to grow them in this country, specially after this summer. My only ‘concern’ was not being able to buy the veg like carrots, apples etc in smaller amounts as it was all pre-bagged, so I ended up buying more than I needed in some cases (anyone want any carrots?) and in the case of the apples I ended up going to buy them from the supermarket as although they were a good deal, there were so many of them I knew they’d go off. So other than buying apples from the supermarket, I also ended up having to buy garlic and cabbage, I’d wanted white cabbage, neither the market or Waitrose had any, so I ended up getting red cabbage instead. But for price comparison of the veg I did buy at the market, from Ocado (in their fixed amount bags) it would have cost me £11.75, from the market it cost £10.60. So I have bags full of veg now, now just have to make sure I use it. The veg I brought was all for my menu plan, so it is planned for, it’s just that I’m terrible for not actually sticking to it.
Finally, I’m itching to change my blog layout but I can’t currently find anything new that I’m happy with, I really like all five horizon’s (see blogroll) layout but I think I’d have to find my own host for that. So I’m having to settle with fiddling with my side bar. You may have noticed I’ve added my Flickr photos to my side bar, they’re nothing particularly exciting but you can see how I’m doing with Crafting 365.
