Transformers

Now I wasn’t going to watch this, I just happened to be in the same room as Mr. Lacer, eating my tea, when he put this on the DVD player and for the want of anything better to do I thought I’d watch the beginning whilst I was eating, confirm my snobbery that it was probably an awful film and then go off and do something else. I do remember Transformers from when I was a kid but (and you know how girls are) they were such a ‘boys’ toy, I just didn’t get them. So anyway, I sat, I ate, I watched, I finished eating and I didn’t get up from the sofa, it is a really good movie (in the whole genre of lots of CGI, teenage love interest, big explosions and lots of chases). They could have so easily taken the concept and made it bad but they didn’t, it’s quirky, funny (the parents are straight out of American Pie) and has a reasonably intelligent (for the genre) concept. It got me actually sympathising with the Autobots and yes I now know what Autobots are. It is a long movie and the final fight sequence did for me drag a little but then again they didn’t do the final fight sequence for me, they did it for 8 year old boys, so an altogether rather good movie.
