Poorly Food

I have a rather nasty cold, the sort that makes you intimately aware of every inch of your upper respiratory system. I didn’t fancy lunch but I did fancy just now (at 4 o’clock in the afternoon) some rice pudding. Using the 20 minute rice pudding recipe from Nigel Slater’s Real Fast Puddings, I did in deed get my rice pudding fix within 20 minutes, feel kind of stuffed now but it was delicious and just as nice or possibly even nicer than an oven version that takes two hours (I never have much success with oven cooked rice puddings, the rice never tastes cooked enough, but that may be my useless ancient oven). I topped the rice pudding with some of the fridge jam and the combination of cool jam and hot pudding was wonderful.

You can find the recipe a little of the way down here

Sorry about the cold. I hope you’re soon on the mend. But isn’t it funny what we suddenly desire at times like this. Your story reminded me of the time I had excruciatingly painful sinusitis and all I wanted was semolina! It was a Sunday and my poor father had to scour the local shops trying to find somewhere that had some. Ask me to eat semolina normally and I’d run a mile. Take care.
