I made apple pie (from Boy Lacer’s Cookery Book for Boys) with the kids today. Girl Lacer did the chopping, Boy Lacer did the flavourings (ginger and cinnamon, quite a bit on the floor) and both did the thumb prints and the brushing with milk / sprinkling with sugar.
It was not the most exciting, original apple pie I’ve ever eaten (last apple pie I think I made was a Jamie Oliver recipe where you make up the pastry instead of getting ready made and you can really tell the difference) but it was still pretty delicious and it definitely beat the last few apple pies I’ve eaten hands down (they were shop bought ones from the mother-in-law).

that’s such a beautiful pie!
Awww thank you, all down to my kids, not me.
Home baked Apple Pies are ALWAYS better than store bought! You should try a Dutch Apple Pie recipe, I put one on my blog quite a while ago http://blog.followthewhitebunny.com/2009/10/apple-pie-recipe-jackalope-in-progress.html My husband regularly makes Tarte tartin (or something) French Apple Pie with puff pastry That’s really nice too.
Ooh apple pies of all varieties are always very nice (specially, like you say, when homemade).
apple pie is wonderful, but time spent creating with the kids is even more wonderful.
