The Hive

The Hive by Gill Hornby tells the story of a group of mums at a primary school, run by queen bee Bea. Bea is such a thoroughly unpleasant cow and that’s where, for me, the story fell down, she’s so unpleasant it beats me why anyone would want to be friends with her, yet they all either revel in her attention or sulk on the margins. So the story was not that believable, to put it mildly, however it was almost like watching a car crash, i.e. you kept wanting to carry on reading and there was a nice romance side story, so, as much as I don’t think this book is particularly well written, I’m still going to give it ……
