Apple Tree Yard

Apple Tree YardApple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Apple Tree Yard had a slow start, I found the main character, middle aged scientist Yvonne to be unlikeable and her actions, an affair with a stranger she meets in the House of Commons to be, at first, a bit inexplicable, it all just seemed like a slighter tamer, older version of Fifty Shades. But as the book progressed the reasons for her behaviour become more obvious. There was an event in the book which I wasn’t expecting at all, that completely turned the rest of the book on its head and it’s hard to say I ‘enjoyed’ the book more after that because the event was horrible but it became a much more ‘interesting’ story after that point.
