My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really liked this one, it wasn’t as toe curlingly uncomfortable as Flesh House but it was still pretty gross. In this one Polish people are turning up across Aberdeen with their eyes gouged out and then set on fire, DS McRae even gets to leave the city for a bit to go and investigate in Poland. The turf war that has slowly been brewing in the background in earlier books has ramped up considerably. Poor McRae though, after what he went through in Flesh House (which was enough to turn him vegetarian), he goes through even more sh*t in this one, ending up with PTSD, this is book 5, I know that there are nine McRae books now, if things keep going this badly for him, I hate to think what’s going to happen to him, I will have to keep reading to find out.
