My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A Fever of the Blood is the second Frey and McGray book and this one features witches, with a quite nice twist to what witches can actually do. A gruesome murder occurs in the same asylum that houses McGray’s sister and McGray and not so much Frey, are drawn to investigate. Their investigation leads them across the country to Lancaster and involves the Ardglass family, the family who McGray hated so much in the first book and it was nice to see some regular characters.
The story is extremely action packed, which certainly was entertaining but this might have been at the expense of developing the characters so that they seemed more realistic. Again, as in book 1, some of the characters actions seemed a bit odd. But still, four out of five stars for the entertainment value and the creation of an interesting, slightly alternative take on witches. I think it would make good TV.
